Social worker Binny Yanga passes away
ITANAGAR, Sept 3 - Binny Yanga, noted social worker and pioneering entrepreneur of Arunachal Pradesh, passed away in a Guwahati hospital today after prolonged illness, her family sources said.
She was 57 and is survived by husband, two sons and two daughters. She was wellknown for her selfless services for the welfare of poor and downtrodden people.
Founder of Oju Welfare Association (OWA), a non-governmental organisation based at Naharlagun, working for the welfare of weaker sections of the society and campaigning against social evils such as child marriage, forced marriage and dowry, she was honoured by the Government of India with Padmashri in 2012.
Born on July 7, 1958, Yanga did her education at Banasthali Vidyapith, Rajasthan. During her student days, she had formed a girls� forum, All Subansiri District Girls Welfare Association, through which she raised her voice against social evils such as child marriage, forced marriage, dowry, among others.

A member of the Arunachal PradeshState Commission for Women and Country Women Associationof India, 57-year-old Yanga is survived by husband, two sons and two daughters.
Her body was brought from Guwahati to Naharlagun by road and her last rites would be performed here, they said.
Born on July 7, 1958, Yanga did her education at Banasthali Vidyapith, Rajasthan.
Despite being diagnosed with cervical cancer in 2007, she continued to work for the Oju Welfare Association(OWA), set up by her, which hosts 338 orphans and destitute.
She formed the All-Subansiri District Girls Welfare Association and raised her voice against social evils such as child marriage, forced marriage, dowry among others.

Binni Yanga Government Women’s College, Lekhi, Naharlagun, the first Women institute of Higher Education in the state of Arunachal Pradesh began its educational pursuit from academic session 2014-15.
