Stephanie Alison Walker was born in 1975 in McHenry, Illinois. Her first public appearance as a writer was at the St. Anne's Elementary School Sixth Grade Author's tea and she's been chasing that high ever since. She writes plays, screenplays and non-fiction. Her short plays have been anthologized by Smith & Kraus and produced all over the world and even the virtual world of Second Life. She has been the finalist for both the prestigious Princess Grace Award for Playwriting (2008) and the Heideman Award (2011.) Her full-length play, AMERICAN HOME, was the winner of Chicago's American Blues Theater's 2011 Blue Ink Award for Playwriting. Since January 2021, Stefanie Walker is Director of the Office of Challenge Programs and oversees Infrastructure and Capacity Building Challenge Grants and related programs. She previously was Senior Program Officer in the Division of Research Programs for twelve years, where she was responsible for Collaborative Research and programs run in partnership with other agencies and external funders, and also served as the division’s Acting Deputy Director.
Walker earned her PhD in art history from New York University in 1994.
