Actor was best-known for film parts Stage-and-screen actor Dimitris Papamichail died of a heart attack yesterday at his holiday home near the northeastern Peloponnesian town of Kranidi. Born in 1934, Papamichail appeared in dozens of Greek films in the 1950s, ’60s and early ’70s, and was married for a period to actress Aliki Vouyiouklaki, with whom he co-starred in several productions. Dimitris Papamichael was born in 1934, in Piraeus, Greece. He studied acting at the Drama School of the National Greek Theater, where he made his stage debut in 1955 in Euripides' "Hecuba" and interpreted several important roles during 1955-1960: Treplev in Anton Chekhov's "The Seagull", Jimmy Porter in John Osborne's "Look Back in Anger" etc. He then collaborated with the prestigious Theatro Technis (Art Theater) and created a personal group with his then wife, Aliki Vougiouklaki: between 1964 and 1974 they appeared together in several plays including George Bernard Shaw's "My Fair Lady") and starred in some of the most commercially successful films in the history of Greek cinema (their on screen partnership had started in 1959 and their marriage - in 1965 - was received with much enthusiasm from their fans). After their divorce (1974) Papamichael retired from films and concentrated on theater; he was much praised for his excellent work in William Shakespeare's "Macbeth" (title role) and Euripides' &qu

Dimitris Papamichail
Dimitris Papamichail (born August 29, 1934 in Piraeus; died August 8, 2004 in Peloponnese) was a famous Greek actor and director.
Papamichail studied acting in the Drama School of the National Theatre and made his dubt in the theatre in 1955 in Euripides' Hecuba. He continued playing in the theatre until 1960. In 1959, while working on the film "Astero", he met actress Aliki Vougiouklaki. This was the start of a rollercoaster romance which ended in holy matrimony in 1965. The couple starred together in several films of the "golden era" of Greek cinema. Their marriage was blessed with a son, Yiannis, but did not last long. After their divorce, Papamichail returned to the theatre. He died on August 8, 2004.
