David Klass is an American screenwriter and novelist. He has written more than 40 screenplays for Hollywood studios and published 14 young adultnovels. His screenplays are primarily character-based thrillers for adults, while his novels often tell the stories of teenagers in crisis.
Biography
Klass was born in Vermont and raised in Leonia, New Jersey, the son of Sheila Solomon Klass, English professor and author, and Morton Klass, professor of anthropology at Barnard College and the brother of Perri Klass, a pediatrician, author, educator, and a contributing columnist for The New York Times. His uncle was science fiction author Philip Klass, who wrote under the name William Tenn.
Klass attended Leonia High School.[1] He received his BA in History from Yale University in 1982 and later graduated from USC School of Cinema-Television (1989).[2] Klass lives in New York City with his wife, Giselle Benatar, and their two children.[3]
Novels
Klass’s writing career began with the novel The Atami Dr David Klass graduated from Pratt Institute in 1966 where he studied art and architecture. He went on to work with Theodore Roszak, and then set up his own studio in New York City. To further his understanding of the human body in 1973 and 1974, Mr. Klass studied anatomy at Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons. Through his deep understanding of anatomy he developed a unique sculptural approach of teaching anatomy and has instructed other artists for over 25 years. His work is known for its powerful realism. In addition to his human figures his knowledge of anatomy and structures has allowed him to create animal sculptures with equal ease and facility. In 1991 the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City commissioned him to create two life size horses for their Arms and Armor Wing. David Klass is a member of the National Sculpture Society and has been showing his work professionally since 1962. His work is in numerous private and public collections•
