Rufus Tiger Taylor (born 8 March 1991) is an English musician, best known as the drummer for the rock band The Darkness since May 2015, and as a touring drummer for the Queen + Adam Lambert stage shows. He is the son of Queen drummer Roger Taylor.

Early life

Taylor was born on 8 March 1991 in London,[1] to Queen drummer Roger Taylor and his longtime girlfriend Deborah Leng. According to his father, Rufus' middle name "Tiger" was chosen by Queen lead singer Freddie Mercury. Taylor claims that growing up with drums made him decide that he wanted to follow in his father's footsteps, as he was uninterested academically, dropping out of school at the age of 16 in favour of a ski instruction course with Warren Smith Ski Academy.[2]

Taylor's first notable appearance was the 2008 Royal Variety Performance, where he played drums for Kerry Ellis and his father Roger Taylor's Queen partner Brian May to an audience inclu

Happy Birthday to Rufus Tiger Taylor

He turns 33!

Rufus Tiger is Roger Taylor’s third child and first born with former partner Debbie Leng.

Roger has proudly passed on his legendary stick-wielding skills to his son:

“Dad didn’t push me towards the drums, but I have been told that, even before I could crawl, he sat me down at a kit. Then, as soon as I could walk, I was going around hitting stuff. I realized at a young age that I wanted to play the drums. Having the opportunity to play drums whenever I wanted, and having drum kits at home kept me inspired.

One Christmas, this huge box arrived in my bedroom, but I didn’t work out what it was until I looked inside. My own drums! That was me done for the next six years; all I wanted to do was play drums.

I didn’t even know my Dad was that famous until I was about 10. I knew he played music and I grew up with the sound of drums coming through the walls, but it wasn’t until he dragged me and my mate out on stage with him at a gig that it really hit me. Have all these people come to hear my dad play the drums? Bloody

“I'm not one of those incredible fucking YouTube kids you see today, doing chops that I've never even heard of!” admits Rufus Taylor, drummer for The Darkness.

He’s here ahead of the band's forthcoming UK tour with Black Stone Cherry to tell us about the albums that mean the most to him, but given that his introduction to the drums was via his father Roger - who’s known for forming the rhythmic backbone to one of the greatest rock bands of all time - we’re intrigued: how he did first pick up the sticks?

“Basically, ever since I can remember, there was always at least one drum kit set up downstairs in the house. So I always had fun sneaking downstairs and just going and bashing about, but obviously too young to know what I was doing.

“I had a cassette player, and I managed to get every Beatles album that you could get on tape, and Elvis. I was j
