Conrad Theys

Born 1940 - Montagu in the Little Karoo.
Grew up in Loeriesfontein in the Northern Cape.

1959 Matriculated at Paarl High School.

1961 Completed his studies as a teacher at Bridgeton Training College, Oudtshoorn.
1962-1974 Taught Art, Geography, History and Afrikaans at various schools in the Northern and Western Cape.
1969-1970 Studied under the well-known artist, Gregoire Boonzaier.
1974 Embarked on a full-time career as an artist.
1981-1982 Studied Graphic Art at the Ruth Prowse School of Art under Edwine Simon.
1984-1986 Vice-Chairman of the Committee for the SAAA Bellville Gallery.
1991 Received award from Loeriesfontein Municipality for outstanding cultural contribution to South Africa.
1993 Elected National Vice President of the South African Association of Arts (SAAA).
1994-1995 Member of Westag Committee (Provincial).
1994-1995 Took part in Actag (Arts and Culture Task Group) of the Department of Arts and Culture.
Since 1995 Co-ordinator and chief adjudicator of the prestigious Volkskas - Atelier Competition.

Conrad Nagel Doman Theys (1940-)

Conrad Theys was born in Montaque and grew up in Loeriesfontein in the North Western Cape. Matriculated from Northern Paarl High School. In 1961 he completed hist studies as a teacher at Brighton College, Oudtshoorn.

Conrad Theys was born in Montagu, Western Cape, in 1940. He spent his childhood in Loeriesfontein in the Northern Cape and completed his matriculation at Northern Paarl High School. In 1961, he graduated as a teacher from Brighton College in Oudtshoorn, near George.

In 1969 and 1970, Theys studied art under renowned artist Gregoire Boonzaier and became a full-time artist in 1974. Later, in 1981–1982, he expanded his skills in graphic art under Edwine Simon at the Ruth Prowse School of Art in Cape Town.

Theys’ works are included in the collections of various prestigious institutions such as the SABC, the National Art Museum, Life Grow, and Rand Merchant Bank. In 1996, he was elected President of the South African Art Society. The University of Pretoria honored him with a Doctorate in Literature and Philosophy in 2004.
