Stanley A. Lucas

Stanley A.  “Junior” Lucas, 75, of Homer City died August 28, 2023, at his late residence.  He was the son of Stanley J. and Anna Mae (Lazarowicz) Lucas and was born on August 30, 1947, in Indiana, Pennsylvania.

Stanley was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Parish and the Saltsburg American Legion, Post #57.  In his earlier years, he loved to hunt, fish, and garden and more recently loved putting together puzzles.

Stanley was a United States Army Veteran and served in the Vietnam War.  He was retired from FMC after 37 years of employment.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, the former Margaret “Peggy” (Hans) Lucas; his mother, Anna Mae Lucas; his daughters, Christina “Tina” Lucas and Patricia “Tricia” Patterson and husband Dean. He is also survived by his grandson, Logan Patterson, his two brothers, Raymond Lucas and wife Cindy and Robert Lucas and wife Diane; and five nephews, three aunts, one uncle, and numerous cousins and his special buddy, Benji.

He was preceded in death by his father, Stanley J. Lucas.

Stanley Lucas is Director for Latin America and the Caribbean for the Washington Democracy Project. He previously served as the U.S. International Republican Institute's (IRI's) Haiti program officer,[1] and lists his international experience as including work on Afghanistan, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America. He also runs a blog called "Haiti Solutions." [2]

Lucas was described by Mother Jones magazine as "the scion of a powerful Haitian family with long-standing animosity toward [former Haitian president Jean-Bertrand] Aristide -- Amnesty International says some family members participated in a 1987 peasant massacre." [1]

The New York Times described Lucas as "an avowed Aristide opponent from the Haitian elite, [who] counseled the opposition to stand firm, and not work with Mr. Aristide, as a way to cripple his government and drive him from power." [3]

Stanley Lucas (15 January 1900 - 21 June 2010)[1] was a Britishsupercentenarian. He was the oldest living man in Europe at the time of his death.[2] He was also the third-oldest man in the world. Lucas was born at MorwenstowUK and had two brothers and two sisters. In 1908 his family moved to Marhamchurch where Lucas lived until 1948. Lucas married Ivy Nancekivell in 1926 and took over the family farm. Lucas was a breeder of Devon cattle and Devon longwool sheep and started a dairy farm in the early 1940s. In 1948 he moved to live with his family at Poughill, where he continued to live after Ivy's death in 1963. Lucas was a member of Bude Town Council from 1959 to 1970, as well as vice chairman. His daughter said, "He has worked hard in his working life and was a teetotaller and non-smoker and since he has been elderly has been well cared for".[3][4] He died on 21 June 2010 in Bude, England at the age of 110.[1]
